Three Indian nationals have been arrested from Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on suspicion of their involvement in cricket betting.
They were arrested by the members of a national security agency at about 2.30 pm from the stadium area when the fourth day’s play of Bangladesh-West Indies first Test was going on, said police.
The three were identified as Sunil Kumar, 38, Chetan Sharma, 33, and Sunny Magu, 32. They were handed over to police.
Police said they are all Indian nationals, but could not provide details.
Inspector Hasan Imam, officer-in-charge of Pahartali Police Station, said members of the National Security Intelligence (NSI) detained the three people on suspicion of being involved in international betting and handed them over to police.
“The NSI members had been monitoring their activities since February 4. Acting on a tip-off, they were arrested on Saturday afternoon and handed over to police,” he said.
“The three have been brought in custody for questioning. We are verifying whether they were involved in betting or not,” the OC said.
“No betting equipment were found in their possession. However, some related videos have been found on their mobile,” the OC added.
