Woman, minor daughter raped at Subarnachar

Bangladesh desk: A local leader of the ruling Awami League has been arrested in an incident of rape of a housewife and her underage daughter, reportedly by a gang of three in Subarnachar upazila in Noakhali early Tuesday.
The incident took place at Charkaji Mokhles village in Charwapda union of the upazila at around 2:15am, according to the police and local people.
The police arrested ruling Awami League’s Charwapda union unit president and former union parishad member Abul Khair Munsi at Maijdee in Noakhali in connection with the rape.
Earlier on Monday, a Noakhali court sentenced 10 people to death and six others to life imprisonment in a case filed over raping a housewife in the same upazila on the night of the 11th general election on December 30, 2018.
According to police officials, the survivor woman had been living with three of her children at their home in Charkaji Mokhles village, while her husband stayed away for work most of the time.
The thieves sneaked into the house at about 2:00am on Tuesday, swooped on the woman and her daughter and raped them. The thieves also tied the housewife up and stole gold and cash.
Two of the thieves gang-raped the 30-year-old housewife and another man raped her 12-year-old daughter, who is a Class V student, police officials said.
The victim’s husband said that few days ago AL leader Abul Khair Munshi wanted to treat his wife with grilled chicken and offered her help in any problem. Sensing his lecherous attitude his wife refused to accept his offer.
The husband said that Abul Khair Munshi is the mastermind of this whole incident.
Charjabbar police officer-in-charge Rafiqul Islam said that the family was shifted to its present house very recently.
The housewife and her daughter have been sent to the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital for medical examination, the officer said.
The rape survivor filed a case with the Charjabbar police against AL leader Abul Khair Munshi, Md Harun and another unidentified man under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
Additional superintendent of police of Noakhali Bijoya Sen said that the prime suspect in the case has been arrested at Maijdee.
