Two weeks needed to improve power crisis: Nasrul Hamid

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid on Sunday said that it will take about two weeks to improve the power crisis.
He admitted that the frequency of load shedding has gone up in recent days and the situation has become worsen due to the ongoing severe heatwave.
They need at least 10 to 15 days to resolve the problem, the state minister told this to reporters at his office in the Power and Energy Ministry on Sunday.
He said there are shortages of coal, gas and fuel, which creates the current crisis. He mentioned that the Payra Power Plant is operating now at half of its capacity.
Barapukuria coal-fired power plant and liquid-fired power plants are also running at half of their capacities, creating the gap between the demand and production.
He said the government is trying to import coal for the Payra power plant as soon as possible.
In replying to a question, the state minister said that they were trying to tackle the situation for the last two months but there were some financial issues. So that they couldn’t be able to open LCs (letter of credits) timely, he added.
