Student bodies urged to be independent of political parties

Professionals and student leaders have urged student organisations to become independent of political parties to ensure free thinking and freedom of thought and conscious of the students.

Non-partisan political exercise is essential for accelerating and strengthening students’ struggle for free thinking, they said at reunion of non-partisan student body Chhatra Parishad at the National Press Club on Friday.

The fourth reunion was dedicated to political theorist Serajul Alam Khan, widely known as Dada.

Physician and Peshajibi Parisahad secretary-general M Rashid Ahmed and journalist Shahiduzzaman inaugurated the programme, which was addressed by non-partisan political leader Swarup Hasan Shahin as the chief guest.

Presided over by Chhatra Parishad president Anwarul Karim Khan, the programme was also addressed, among others, by its leaders Naurin Sultana Shanta, Suhena Akter Hena, Sohel Rana Sajib, Rahatul Islam, Khadija Akter Anna, Nabiur Rahman Chayon, Ankon Ahmed and Airin Akter.

Among the former Chhatra Parishad members, Milton Hossain, Moshiur Rahman Mosi, Hamidul Haque, Masum Mia Sentu, Kazi Iqbal Hossain Russell, Moniruzzaman and others were also present at the event.

Call for social progress, the fourth industrial revolution, non-partisan politics and the implementation of Serajul Alam Khan’s 14-point charter were made from the daylong reunion.
