Bangladesh Desk: A Saudi Arabia returnee woman allegedly left an eight-month old baby girl at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Friday.
Members of Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBn) rescued the baby this morning.
The mother left the baby near Baggage carousel, close circuit camera footage showed.
APBn members found the child crying in the morning and they fed the child, Alamgir said.
Police also found a co-passenger of the child’s mother.
The co-passenger named Asma told APBn officials said that the mother married a man after going to Saudi Arabia and they had the child.
Her family members in Bangladesh are not aware of the marriage and the couple got separated later.
She came to Bangladesh at about 2:00am in a flight of Saudi Airlines.
The mother thought that her family in Bangladesh would not accept the child, APBn officials said.
APBn officer Alamgir said that they had contacted expatriate welfare and overseas employment ministry officials and BRAC officials who are interested to look after the baby.
APBn members are trying to identify the woman from CCTV footages and return the baby to her, said Alamgir.
If the child cannot be returned to her mother, the baby might be handed over to the ministry or BRAC to rehabilitate the child.
