Sanction a warning to govt: BNP

Bangladesh desk: BNP standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain has said the sanction that has imposed is a huge warning to the government of Bangladesh.
“Now, not just the sanction, you have heard that in the wake of this, 12 international human rights organizations have written a letter to the United Nations asking that Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) not be taken in peacekeeping missions and those who are there be expelled,” said Mosharraf while addressing at programme held at National Press Club in Dhaka on Saturday.
Ziaur Rahman Foundation arranged the event on the occasion of the 86th birth anniversary of late President Ziaur Rahman.
He further said, “Today in newspapers, it has been reported that the United Nations has taken the letter in cognizance and said they will investigate the matter and take action. You may have understood that how warnings are being issued around them (government) internationally. I think that the government, blinded by the arrogance of power, cannot understand this today.”
Khandaker Mosharraf termed the government’s initiative to form a law over Election Commission after the President’s dialogue as another joke. He said that the draft bill prepared by the government to form the Election Commission is being placed in the Parliament to confuse the people.
He said, “Those who rule by force, those who are not the government of the people, will pass a law. What to do then?”
Khandaker Mosharraf said, “According to the law, a search committee has to be formed. In other words, the list that the Prime Minister will give, the search committee will give that list to the President, and the President will announce it. ”
“It is just another joke to confuse people. Earlier, the government had made a joke by holding a dialogue with the political parties through the President. ”
Mosharraf said they have long ago announced that there will never be a fair and credible election that under this illegitimate and fascist government. “No election commission would be able to work independently under this government. In the past, two election commissions have left evidence of that.”
The programme was chaired by Ziaur Rahman Foundation’s executive director Farhad Halim Donar and moderated by Mahbub Alam.
BNP chairperson’s advisory council members Aman Ullah Aman, Abdus Salam; education affairs secretary ABM Obaidul Islam and Ziaur Rahman Foundation member Sarkar Mahbub Ahmed Shamim, were, among others, spoke.
