Bangladesh desk: M Khurshid Hossain, director general of the Rapid Action Battalion, on Thursday said that his force had no reason to be worried about sanctions.
‘Those who have businesses or real estates in the United States, or those who are involved in money laundering, are the ones to fear sanctions. The RAB, on the other hand, is not involved in any such activities,’ the head of the elite force made the remarks during the inauguration of a camp in Bhatiapara of Gopalgonj.
He asserted that, in spite of sanctions imposed on them, the RAB remained undeterred on the face of any threats.
‘RAB is not afraid of any red eyes. It’s not a big deal to catch anyone anywhere,’ he added.
He said, ‘After assuming my role in RAB, I made it clear that I am not worried about these sanctions. Our focus is on serving people, and we are not apprehensive about the sources of these sanctions.’
The DG, however, expressed his concern about ‘ongoing conspiracies’ against the RAB at home and abroad.
The United States in December 2021 had declared Ex-RAB DG and the then inspector general of police Benazir Ahmed ineligible for entry to the country and sanctioned the battalion’s five other serving and former officials for human rights abuse.
