Over 200 leaders, activists detained in Dhaka: BNP

Bangladesh desk: The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Wednesday alleged that more than 200 leaders and activists have been detained in Dhaka ahead of the Nayapaltan rally.
The party sources said leaders and activists from different districts arrived in the capital on Wednesday to take part in Thursday’s rally. They alleged that they were picked up from various entry points to the capital — Kakrail, Fakirapool and Malibagh areas—at around 1pm.
Police, however, made no statement on the detention as yet.

An official of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Motijheel division on condition of anonymity said that police conducted raid in Nayapaltan and adjacent areas from Tuesday evening and detained many people, but they are yet to ascertain the number of detainees.
