Mocha heading towards Myanmar, Bangladesh’s risk has decreased: BMD

As severe cyclonic storm Mocha is heading towards Myanmar, now risk for Bangladesh has reduced, said BMD director Mohammad Azizur Rahman.
The sever storm will cross Sittwe region of southern Myanmar, 50-60 km away from Teknaf, he said while briefing the newsmen about the latest situation of the cyclone on Sunday noon.
“Myanmar and its southern region areas are expected to be at greater risk.”
However, Azizur Rahman expressed concern about severe conditions being created on St Martin’s Island and in Teknaf as the cyclone crosses the mainland of Bangladesh.
The cyclone is currently crossing the Cox’s Bazar-north Myanmar coast. It is expected to weaken after the evening.
Drizzling, accompanied by a gusty wind, has started in St Martin’s Island and nearby Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar soon after the cyclonic storm Mocha started crossing Bangladesh’s coast.
The maritime port of Cox’s Bazar was asked to hoist great danger signal No 10, while Chattogram and Payra were advised to hoist great danger signal No 8 and the maritime port of Mongla was advised to hoist local warning signal No 4.
