Lynching of man at DU: 8 students expelled
Bangladesh desk: Eight students have been expelled from Dhaka University (DU) over lynching a man at the university’s Fazlul Huq Muslim Hall.
Their seats were cancelled on Friday (September 20).
The university administration also sacked provost Prof Shah Mohammad Masum for negligence of his duty.
Public relation office of the DU sent a notification in this regard on Saturday (September 21).
The accused students are Md Jalal Mia, former Chhatra League leader of Fazlul Huq hall unit and a student of the Physics Department; Suman Mia of the Soil, Water and Environment Department; Mottakin Sakin of the Institute of Nutrition and Food Science; Al Hossain Sazzad of Geography and Environment Department; Wazibul Alam of Ocean Science Department; and Ahsan Ullah of the Department of Mathematics; Firoz Kabir of Botany Department; and Abdus Samad of Physics Department.
Law enforcement agency members have already arrested six accused, accept Abdus Samad and Firoz Kabir.
DU proctor Saifuddin Ahmed said, “As the eight students were involved directly in the lynching Tofazzal, their seats were cancelled. A probe body has been formed today or Sunday. After getting report, permanent decision will be taken against those.”
