Earlier at about 5:30pm on Wednesday, a devastating fire broke out at Salam Jute Mills near Jabusa Choursta under number 3 Nouhati union of the upazila. When the local people saw the fire at the mills, they informed the Fire Service immediately.

The blaze soon spread and the workers, who were working at that time, went out in fear.

According to the owners’ claim, there has been a loss of around Tk100 crore.

“The fire service is trying its best to douse the fire. There is no firefighting system in the establishment. As a result, they have to face problems,” Farruq Shikder said.
Manager of Salam Jute Mill Bashir Ahmed said that the fire originated from a electric short circuit due to a mechanical fault in a machine no one located in warehouse No 3. Within a short time, the fire spread to warehouses No 2 and No 1.
