Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday said that party chairperson Khalda Zia was still ill and she got no opportunity to get treatment.
Talking to reporters after offering prayer at the grave side of party founder and late president Ziaur Rahman at capital’s Sher-e-Banglanagar on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, he also said that they were waiting for the opportunity and hoped that they would get it.
‘Actually, she is not getting the opportunity for treatment. In the present situation, one cannot go to hospital and doctors cannot come. Besides, now there is no opportunity to go abroad for treatment,’ he said.
Khaleda, jailed on February 8, 2018 in a corruption case that BNP terms false and fabricated, has been staying at her Gulshan house in Dhaka city since her release on an executive order on March 25, 2020.
Fakhrul greeted people on behalf of Khaleda and acting party chairman Tarique Rahman.
He said that they sought divine blessings for tackling COVID-19 crisis and the prolonged flood.
‘At the same time we also sought divine blessings to continue struggle for re-establishing democracy,’ he said.
He urged the government to take immediate and effective steps for tackling the flood and said that his party had already begun activities in districts in this regard.
