Jubo League leader, two others held with Tk 1,200cr in fake bank cheques

A team of Detective Branch in Bogura apprehended three persons, including a local Jubo League (JL) leader, along with Tk 1,200 crore in fake cheques from Tarash upazila in Sirajganj yesterday.

Desk report: The JL leader was identified as Md Rabbi Shakil alias DJ Shakil, 32, vice president of Tarash upazila unit JL. His Father Kazi Golam Mostafa is the president of the upazila Krishok League unit, reports our local correspondent, quoting DB police.

The two other arrestees are — Md Humayan Kabir, 28, son of Abdul Malek, hailing from Kusumdi village of the upazila, and Md Harun Rashid, 26, son of Saidur Rahman, hailing from Garikhetra village of Manda upazila in Naogaon.

Humayun worked as the IT expert and assistant for Shakil while Harun was the manager at Shakil’s office, said Imran Mahmud Tuhin, inspector of Bogura DB police.

They were arrested in connection with a fraud case filed with Bogura Sadar police station. The accused have been realising money by alluring people to manage any amount of loan from any bank, victims alleged.

Police seized cheques signed by different clients of different banks, worth Tk 1201.72 core, fake appointment letters of Bangladesh Army and different government jobs, three computers, three printers, fake ID cards of different print and electronic media, 60 SIM cards, two terabytes of fake edited documents during the raid, said Md Ali Asraf Bhuiyan, superintendent of police (SP) in Bogura.

Shakil and his gang were using 12 Facebook accounts under different names, 35 Facebook pages, 22 online news portals, seven bank accounts to cheat young business entrepreneurs and individuals, he added.

The accused will be produced before a Bogura court today with a 10-day remand prayer, said DB Inspector Tuhin.
