IU student refuses to appear before BCL probe body

Bangladesh desk: The victim of Islamic University in Kushtia, who was tortured by the female leaders of the university’s Bangladesh Chhatra League unit, on Sunday refused to appear before a probe body of the organisation.
Victim Phulpori said, “They (BCL) made a phone call to me on Saturday and asked me to appear before their probe committee. But I refused it for security reasons.”
She further said, “I informed the matter to proctor sir after receiving phone call from the BCL’s probe body.”
“He (proctor) assured me about my safety on campus. But will I be safe on the 75km journey to the university from my home?”
About BCL’s probe body, the victim said she has no confidence over the probe body. “They have not done anything after so many days. How can I trust them?”
“Chattra League President Saddam Hussain also called me and assured that I will get justice. I expect justice,” said the victim.
IU BCL vice president Boni Amin said they formed the probe body soon after the incident.
He said they have taken the statements from the accused BCL activists and others involved and they will take Phulpori’s statement over the phone.
On the night of February 12, a group of BCL activists led by its IU unit vice-president Shanjida Chowdhury Ontora and her cohorts, including Tabassum, tortured and forced the victim to undress while videotaping the incident on their mobile phones. She threatened to spread the video on social media if the victim disclosed the matter to anyone.
The victim lodged a written complaint with the university administration, including the university proctor, student adviser and the hall provost, demanding punishment of those involved in the incident on February 14.
