How many houses Wasa MD has in America, asks Fakhrul

Bangladesh Desk: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has asked the government to find out how many houses the Dhaka Wasa managing director Taksim A Khan has in the United States.

“I have read in today’s newspaper that the Dhaka Wasa MD has gone to America on three months’ leave. We have learnt that he would conduct his official duties staying in the US. Why he wants to perform his official duties staying in America in such a crisis situation, hot weather and Covid? What are the reasons? Investigate it. How many houses he has built in America,” he asked.

Fakhrul was addressing a function organised to distribute grants and Eid gifts on behalf of the BNP’s acting chairman Tareque Rahman among the families of party leaders and activists who become the victims forced disappearance and murders at the BNP Chairperson’s political office at Gulshan in the capital.

The BNP Secretary General also alleged that the government has been doing business with Covid-19. “People are not getting treatment. They are moving from one hospital to another, but don’t find any seat in ICUs. It has been happening over the last one and a half years, but the government doesn’t pay any heed to that undesirable situation. They only pay attention to how they would be able to make money resorting to corruption,” he said.

“It’s unfortunate for us as a nation. The government should have invited all the political parties to deal with such a calamity. They could do it, but they didn’t do it,” he said.

Referring to the government’s move to procure vaccine from different countries of the world, Fakhrul said, “We cautioned the government about one and a half years ago not to procure vaccine from a single source. They have procured the vaccine from a single sources for their own interest. Asa result, what has happened. Vaccine is now available now.”

Fakhrul said: “We advised the government to procure vaccines from alternative sources like China and Russia. They didn’t do it at the beginning. What are we going to do now? Bangladesh is going to sign accords with China and Russia. There is a special group of people who like to drink water after muddling it. They are also doing the same thing.”

The BNP leader said, “If we fail to protect the country from the Awami League government, the entire nation will be perished. We must have to find ways to get rid of this government. If you look around , you would find that there is no administration in the country. There is no accountability of anybody else. Nobody is accountable to anybody else.”

Fakhrul said Awami League had killed teens and juveniles like today when it was in power in 1975. They had killed some 18,000 young activists of JSD. Leaders like Siraj Sikder were killed from the back.
