Hindu houses set on fire in Rangpur following Facebook post

A mob set fire to a number of houses of the Hindus at a remote village of Pirganj upazila in Rangpur Sunday night following a Facebook post allegedly by a Hindu youth defaming Kaaba.
Officials said that police members were deployed at the village of fishing people in the evening as the Facebook post went viral.
Later in the late evening, the mob set fire to the houses at the village, they said.
Rangpur range deputy inspector general of police Devdas Bhattachariya and Pirganj upazila nirbahi officer Biroda Rani Roy refused to comment saying that they were on the spot.
Pirganj Police Station inspector Mahbubur Rahman said that they had been at the village since the evening as tension intensified and they arrested a number of suspects in the attack.
District fire service officials said that the fire was reported at about 9:50pm. They said that the mob obstructed fire fighters from dousing the fire.
The fire fighters said that they were not sure about the identity of the attackers and reason behind the attack.
