The ship was anchored near Garacad area at about 1pm on Thursday.
Bangladesh Merchant Marine Officers’ Association (BMMOA) confirmed the matter this afternoon after collecting information from a global shipping source.
BMMOA general secretary Md Shakawat Hossain said, “Around 1pm, pirates anchored the vessels where 23 sailors are being kept hostage, 20 nautical miles off the Somalian port.”
Responding to a question over pirates’ demand, he said, “They did not contact yet with the ship owners KSRM Group.”
The ship is owned by KSRM Group’s ‘SR Shipping’.
Mizanul Islam, media consultant of KSRM Group, said, “Pirate group did not contact with us still now. All the crew members are safe.”
Meanwhile family members of the victim sailors are being contacted with owners. On Wednesday, 20 family members rushed to the KSRM office in search of their dearest ones.
The ship, carrying 23 crews, was hijacked by Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean early Tuesday afternoon.
