Govt trying to establish absolute power: Rizvi

Bangladesh Nationalist Party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Bangladesh Nationalist Party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Thursday alleged that the ruling Awami League government was trying to establish absolute power through amending the country’s law.
Rizvi also said that the Election Commission had taken initiative to amend some of its laws.
‘In this way the government will establish its authority on the Election Commission and one of the election commissioners had given a note opposing the initiative,’ Rizvi said.
He made the statements while addressing a programme after placing wreath at the grave of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam in Dhaka, marking his 44th death anniversary.
The government was working on expanding its power, Rizvi said.
BNP joint general secretary Habib Un Khan Sohel, and central leaders Abdus Salam Azad, and Shainur Rahman Shamim, among others, attended the programme.
