Govt patronises repression on people: BNP

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir
Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday said that the Awami League government was patronising repression against people.
While speaking at a human chain in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka, Fakhrul Islam said that the government inaction against rapists had encouraged and they also got government patronisation.
He also said that ruling party activists are involved in most of the incidents of rape and other forms of sexual harassment.
Women in Bangladesh have no safety and security, said Fakhrul at the human chain organised by Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal protesting against rape and repression against women.
Giving an explanation of recent deterioration in law and order situation, Fakhrul said that the government had no command over the administration and the law enforcement agencies because the ruling party took power without a fair election and had been clung onto the power using the administration and law enforcement agencies.
He called on opposition political parties to unite to end the misrule of the government.
Senior joint secretary general BNP, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed said that the Awami League government had created anarchy in the country.
He called on the government to step down immediately to make a way for a free and fair general election under a caretaker government.
Chaired by Mahila Dal president Afroza Abbus the human chain was addressed, among others, by its general secretary Helen Zerin Khan and other central leaders.
