Bangladesh desk: The government on Monday briefed select members of the diplomatic community in Bangladesh on treatment of ailing former prime minister Khaleda Zia.
Foreign minister AK Abdul Momen briefed the diplomats at the State Guest House Padma in Dhaka.
‘We have told them that she is not in jail. She is free to go for treatment anywhere in the country. But if she wants to go abroad for treatment, she will have to follow legal process,’ foreign minister Momen said in a press briefing.
Law must be upheld, the minister said, adding that BNP can bring doctors from abroad to Bangladesh for her treatment if they want to.
The briefing for diplomats also included ongoing Union Parishad elections, prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s joining in the UN climate conference COP26, Rohingya issues and upcoming world peace conference set to be held in December 4-5.
