Bangladesh: Five killed as protesters clash with police, BGB in Brahmanbaria

Five protesters were killed and at least 50 people, including 25 policemen, injured as protestors clashed police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members in Brahmanbaria on Saturday.
The incident took place in Nandanpur BSCIC industrial area of Sadar upazila around 6:30 pm.
Rana Nurus Shams, resident medical officer of Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital, told reporters they have so far declared five of the injured dead.
The deceased were identified as Badal Miah, 24, son of Dabir Miah of Sunamganj, Juru Alam, 35, son of Abdul Latif Miah, Sujan Miah, 22,son of Juru Ali, Kawsar, 25, son of Ali Ahmed, of Brahmanbaria, and Md. Jubaed, 14.
Police and witnesses said a group of activists of Hefazat-e-Islam took position on Dhaka-Sylheht Highway in Nandanpur area in the afternoon and started demonstrating right there against Modi’s visit and the killing of people in Brahmanbaria and Chittagong on Friday.
The clash began as the members of police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) tried to disperse them.
Meanwhile, Awami League brought out a rally in the afternoon on TA Road in the town and chased some madrasa students from behind while crossing the Jamia Islamia Yunusia Madrasa area. At this time the students also retaliated. About 50 cocktails were exploded during the clash. Agitating people later blocked the main road, set fire on it and stopped traffic movement there.
Being informed, BGB members reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
The injured are receiving treatment at Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital.
In Sarail upazila, Auroail Police Outpost was attacked from the protest procession brought out by the locals, leaving 25 policemen injured.
The details of the injured policemen could not be known immidiately. They have been received first aid. Police brought the situation under control by firing rubber bullets and tear gas.
Sarail Police Station inspector Kabir Hossain said police members were suddenly attacked from the protest procession.
