Facebook reportedly down in Bangladesh

Access to social media platform Facebook has reportedly been blocked in Bangladesh.
Many users reported that they were unable to access Facebook beginning from about 6:00pm following major protests in Dhaka and Chattogram against Indian prime minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangladesh.
‘I have heard about the issue. The move might have been taken by the telecom ministry following instruction from the competent authorities,’ said Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission vice-president Subrata Roy Maitra.
Department of Telecommunications director general Mohammad Mohsinul Alam declined to make any comment.
A senior official of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission told New Age that the department of telecommunications blocked Facebook in the country.
Modi arrived in Dhaka Friday morning to join the concluding ceremony of the 10-day special celebrations of the golden jubilee of Bangladesh’s independence and the birth centenary of the country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
