Ex Jubo League leader Samrat is in India for medical treatment, lawyer tells HC

Bangladesh desk: Former Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat, an accused of a criminal case filed for accumulating illegal wealth, went to Kolkata in India on Saturday (July 15).
His lawyer disclosed it to the High Court on Sunday that his client Samrat was scheduled to return to the country on July 25 next.
Later, the HC bench kept the matter stand-over till August 1.
Advocate Md Khurshid Alam Khan appeared for the ACC, while Advocate Mansurul Huq Chowdhury stood for Samrat at the HC.
Advocate Mansurul Huq Chowdhury stated at the court that Manzurul Imam, judge of Dhaka’s Special Judge Court-6 granted permission to his client Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat to go abroad for medical treatment in the case on June 1 last. At the same time, the court ordered to hand over Samrat’s passport to his custody.
The ACC has recently appealed to the High Court seeking cancellation of the order.
On August 22 last year, Dhaka’s Special Judge Court-6’s judge Al Asad Md Asifuzzaman granted bail to Samrat after a hearing in the case.
Several conditions were also imposed on Samrat regarding his bail. The conditions were: Samrat will have to surrender his passport to court, and he will no be able to go abroad with the court’s permission. Being freed on bail, Samrat left the hospital on August 26 last year.
On November 12, 2019, ACC deputy director Md Jahangir Alam filed a case against Samrat for accumulating the illegal wealth worth Tk 2,94,80,087 beyond his known sources of income.
Investigating the case, the ACC deputy director Md Jahangir Alam submitted a chargesheet against Samrat to the court on November 26, 2020.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Samrat from Chouddagram in Cumilla in October 7, 2019 for his involvement in Casino business.
