Dihan confesses to role in killing of O-level student after rape, sent to jail

Fardin Iftekhar Dihan, the lone accused in a case filed over the rape and murder of an O Level student, has been sent to jail after he confessed to the charges pressed against him before a Dhaka court.
He was taken to the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mamunur Rashid on Friday afternoon, where he confessed to his crimes under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Swapan Kumar, general recording officer (GRO) of the court, said Dihan was taken to the magistrate’s chamber for recording his statement.
Earlier in the day, the victim’s father victim filed the case against Dihan with Kalabagan police station, said Sub-Inspector Asaduzzaman, the investigating officer (IO).
Although the age of the accused was mentioned 18 years in the case documents, police said they would be able to confirm only after official documents are available.
A relative of the victim said Dihan is an A Level student at a school in Dhaka.
According to the case statement, the victim left her house around 11:45am on Thursday, when she told her mother over the phone that she was going to a coaching class.
Dihan called the victim’s mother at 1:18pm and said her daughter had gone to his house at Kalabagan where she fell sick.
As she was brought to the emergency department of Anwer Khan Modern Hospital, Dihan asked her mother to come there.
When the victim’s mother reached the hospital, the on-duty doctor informed her that her daughter had been murdered after rape, accordin to the case document.
The parents of the victim learnt later that Dihan had asked their daughter to go to his flat, which was empty as members of his family were out at the time, it said.
Upon receiving information, police went to the hospital and detained Dihan and three of his friends.
The victim’s father told Dhaka Tribune that Dihan had admitted to killing his daughter after rape during primary interrogation.
“Investigators are also questioning his three friends. Charges will be pressed against them also, If they are found to be involved,” he added.
