Dengue claims three in 24 hours in Bangladesh

Bangladesh desk: Three more people died from dengue infection in the past 24 hours till Wednesday morning taking the death toll to 45 until September 1, 2021 in Bangladesh.
According to the data published by Directorate General of Health Services, in the past 24 hours, 295 more people were hospitalised across the country with the mosquito-borne viral disease.
Among the new patients, 250 were admitted to government and private hospitals in Dhaka while the remaining 45 cases were reported from outside the Dhaka division.
Among the 45 deaths this year, 12 people died in the month of July and 33 in August, said DGHS.
Among the total hospitalised patients since January 2021, 9,711 or over 90 per cent of the patients were hospitalised in Dhaka city, as per the data based on a limited number of hospitals.
Around 390 registered private clinics and 691 diagnostic centres are in operations in the capital city, according to the Bangladesh Private Clinic Diagnostic Owners Association’s website.
A total of 2,286 hospitalised cases were recorded in July 2021 alone while the figure was 372 in the past six months between January and June 2021.
A total of 7,698 patients were hospitalised across the country in August 2021, showing a fast rising trend of dengue infections during the monsoon.
Some 1,156 dengue patients, including 1,015 in the capital, were undergoing treatment at 41 government and private hospitals on Wednesday.
A total of 9,447 patients have so far returned home after recovery, according to the DGHS data.
The dengue outbreak has become a cause of major concern as the country is battling the deadlier Delta variant of coronavirus with its limited healthcare facilities for the last few months.
