Constable withdrawn for whisking off journo’s microphone

A policeman is snatching the microphone of Nagorik TV journalist Sayed Arman in parliament area on Sunday.

Bangladesh desk: A police constable was withdrawn for taking away microphone of a television journalist while he was on live telecast in front of the parliament on Sunday.

After his withdrawal, constable Shahinur Rahman was attached to the police lines on Monday. The decision to withdraw Shahinur followed a wide range of criticism from media professionals.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police deputy commissioner for media Faruk Hossain said that departmental actions were underway against him.

Shahinur was withdrawn for his ‘unprofessional’ behaviour with the journalist; the action was taken after the DMP commissioner was informed of the incident, he added.

Nagorik TV journalist Sayed Arman, also a member of Dhaka Reporters’ Unity, was telecasting live the resignation of BNP members of parliament from in front of Jatiya Sangsad on Sunday afternoon when constable Shahinur whisked off the journalist’s microphone and obstructed him to perform duties.

In a statement on Sunday, DRU president Mursalin Nomani and general secretary Mynul Hasan Sohel condemned the incident on behalf of the DRU executive committee.

The DRU leaders demanded that the authorities investigate the matter and take action against the cop.

They called upon the police authority to cooperate with the journalists while performing their duties.

DC Faruk said that there was no restriction on covering event and the policeman’s conduct was not sound.
