Bangladesh: Chargesheet in graft case submitted against OC Pradeep, wife

Bangladesh desk: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC)  has submitted a chargesheet against former officer-in-charge of Teknaf Model police station Pradeep Kumar Das and his wife in a graft case.

The chargesheet was submitted to the court of Chattogram Senior Special Judge Sheikh Ashfaqur Rahman on Monday, said ACC lawyer Mahmudul Haque, adding that the court did not fix the date of hearing yet.

Meanwhile, ACC Chattogram office assistant director Riaz Uddin told media the chargesheet has been submitted on completion of the  investigation in the graft case.

ACC filed the case against sacked OC Pradeep  and his wife for amassing wealth worth Tk 4 crore  on August 23, 2020.

However, Chumki Karon, wife of Pradeep, remained absconding since Pradeep’s arrest in the Maj (Retd) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan murder case.

On April 20, 2019, OC Pradeep and his wife were given notice to submit the statement of their assets.
In June the same year, OC Pradeep and his wife submitted their statements.

Following their statement, after a long investigation, the ACC has reportedly found information about Pradeep and his wife that they had acquired assets worth more than Tk 4 crore.

Pradeep is now in jail in a case filed over the murder of Major (retd) Rashed Md Sinha on July 31 in 2020.

Major (retd) Sinha was killed in police firing at Baharchhara police check-post on July 31.

Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous, elder sister of Sinha, filed a case at Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Court after the incident on August 5.

OC Pradeep surrendered the following day and later police took him to Cox’s Bazar Jail.
