Canada-born Bangladeshi girl handed over to Canada mission

The High Court on Sunday handed over a 19 years old Canada-born Bangladeshi girl, who had been reportedly confined to her parents in Bangladesh, to the Candia’s Mission in Bangladesh for her repatriation to Canada.
Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice SM Maniruzzaman granted the girl’s permission to fly to Canada after hearing her parents.
The bench issued the directive after disposing of a writ petition filed by Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust on behalf of the girl, on April 5 challenging the legality of illegally confining the girl at the custody of her parents for 10 months.
Canada High Commission in Bangladesh also provided console assistant to the girl to free her.
The court earlier rescued the girl from her parents’ house at North Mugda in the capital and the parents produced her before the court on April 10 to satisfy it that she was not confined illegally.
Supreme Court’s registrar general Md Bazlur Rahman on Sunday received the only child from her parent inside the courtroom to hand over her to the Canada Mission to Bangladesh immediately.
The court also directed the Canadian High Commissioner in Bangladesh to initiate the process of her repatriation.
The court asked the Canada government to continue her education, provide her accommodation, treatment and ensure her safety and security.
The court also asked the Canada government to ensure visiting right of her parents.
The parents, both Canada green card holders, and gave birth of the daughter and they had been residing at Brimley road in Canada before they are all repatriated to Bangladesh in 2021, the couple’s lawyer Ozi Ullah told New Age.
Supreme Court lawyers ZI Khan Panna and Sara Hossain appeared for the girl while senior lawyer Ozi Ullah was assisted by his juniors Azim Uddin Patwari and Nurul Karim Biplob.
