BUET must comply with HC order on student politics: VC

“There is no obstacle to student politics in BUET,” said Vice-Chancellor Dr Satya Prasad Majumdar while giving a clear indication that student politics might be returning to BUET campus.
The Vice-Chancellor said that in order to maintain discipline on the campus, students, teachers and the administration have to reach a mutual decision, and for this to happen, discussion is necessary.
Earlier on Monday afternoon, High Court says that students can run political activities at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
An HC bench of Justice Md Khasruzzaman and Justice KM Jahid Sarwar passed the order following a writ filed by BCL central committee leader and BUET student Imtiaz Hossain Rahim Rabbi.
The court, at the same time, issued a rule asking why the decision to ban student politics on campus should not be declared illegal.
Adv Shah Manjurul Haque was present for the writ petitioner, while deputy attorney general Samarendra Nath Biswas and assistant attorney general Abul Kalam Khan Daud represented the state.
Student politics was banned on the campus after the murder of Abrar Fahad, a second-year student by members of Bangladesh Chhatra League at the university’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall on October 7, 2019.
