Biplob Kumar, Mehedi Hasan suspended

Bangladesh desk:  Biplob Kumar Sarker, former Joint Commissioner of Police (Admin and Intelligence-South) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), and SM Mehedi Hasan, DMP Traffic’s joint police commissioner, have been suspended for being absent from work without permission or prior notice, either verbally or in writing.

The Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs, issued a notification in this regard on Monday.

The notification, signed by Senior Secretary Nasimul Gani on the President’s orders, mentioned that Biplob Kumar and Mehedi Hasan have been absent from their duties since August 6, 2024, without informing the appropriate authorities.
As a result, Biplob Sarker and Mehedi have been temporarily suspended from government service under Rule 2 (f) of the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018.
During their suspension, they will be attached to the Sylhet Range DIG office, where they will receive subsistence allowances as the additional DIG in accordance with government regulations.
Biplob, appointed to the police cadre in the 21st Bangladesh Civil Service batch, is a former general secretary of the Jagannath Hall branch of the Dhaka University Chhatra League unit. He was known as an influential officer in the police during the reign of the Awami League.
