Banned BCL holds flash procession in Ctg

Banned student organisation Bangladesh Chhatra League brought out a flash procession in Chattogram city Thursday morning, while police arrested five BCL suspects for chanting slogans on the Dhaka University campus in the early hours on the day.
The incidents took place at a time when the AL and its banned student wing BCL announced month-long programme in February.
In Chattogram, at least 20-25 BCL activists brought out a procession in the city’s Khulshi area at about 6:00am and ended the procession in the GEC area within 10 minutes, according to witnesses.
The procession was led by BCL Chattogram South district unit former vice-president Mizanur Rahman, demanding the resignation of interim government chief adviser Muhammad Yunus, New Age staff correspondent in Chattogram reported.
At 10:00am on the day, a video footage of the procession was shared on the official Facebook page of BCL, saying a protest procession and rally was jointly organised by the BCL Chattogram Metropolitan and South district unit at the GEC intersection in the city.
The footage shows 20 to 25 people marching on one side of the CDA Avenue road at GEC intersection and chanting slogans demanding the resignation of the interim government.
CMP deputy commissioner for crime Roish Uddin said that Chhatra League brought out a procession in the GEC area early morning.
‘Efforts to identify those who were involved are ongoing, and police are taking necessary actions,’ the DC added.
On January 19, a sudden procession by the banned BCL took place at 1:30am in the Uttara Residential Area of Koylar Ghor under the Bayezid police station in Chattogram.
Police had arrested four individuals from the procession.
In Dhaka city, Bangladesh Nationalist party’s student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal reportedly detained five BCL suspects in Mall Chattar area on the Dhaka University campus for chanting ‘Joy Bangla’ slogans early Thursday.
Later, the JCD activists handed over the five people to the Shahbagh police.
A video footage on social media shows JCD activists purportedly questioning five people in the presence of police.
Shahbagh police station officer-in-charge Khalid Mansur, however, told New Age that a petrol team of police arrested them at about 3:00am.
‘We have produced them before a Dhaka court and the court has sent them to jail. We have shown them arrested in a previously filed case. We are investigating whether they are BCL activists or not,’ the OC added.
He, however, did not disclose the names and identities of the arrested persons.
On October 23, 2024, the interim government banned Awami League’s student wing BCL through an executive order.
