Bangladesh Veteran journalist Toab Khan passes away

Ekushey Padak winning veteran journalist Toab Khan, editor of the daily ‘Danik Bangla’, has passed away at a hospital in Dhaka.
The 87-year-old veteran journalist breathed his last around 12:30pm on Saturday while undergoing treatment at United Hospital, said Toab Khan’s younger brother Obaidul Kabir Bachhu.
He had long been suffering from old age complications.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock at the death of journalist Toab Khan.
In a message of condolence, she prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family, said a press release of the Prime Minister’s press wing.
Toab Khan was born in April 24, 1934, in Satkhira district. He started his journalism career in 1953. He had joined Dainik Sangbad in 1955. He was the news editor of Dainik Pakistan which was renamed as Dainik Bangla after the independence of the country in 1971. Then he was the editor of the Dainik Bangla.
The eminent journalist received Ekushey Padak for his outstanding contribution to journalism in 2016.
Toab Khan also served as Chief Information Officer and Director General of the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB).
The veteran journalist also played a role as a strong voice in Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra to inspire the freedom fighters during the War of Liberation.

He also served as the Advisory Editor of daily ‘Janakantha’ and, later, joined as the Editor of ‘Danik Bangla’.
