Bangladesh reports 44 new deaths, 2,617 COVID19 cases last 24 hours

Bangladesh has recorded 44 more deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the number of total fatalities to 3,557.

Besides, 2,617 more have tested positive for the deadly virus over the same period, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 269,115, disclosed the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) through a press release on Thursday.

A total of 1,782 people recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours.

So far, a total of 154,871 patients — 57.55% of all the infected — have made full recovery from the disease across the country.

As many as 12,892 samples were collected from suspected Covid-19 patients in the last 24 hours.

As many as 13,162 samples, including the pending ones, were tested in 87 authorized labs — government and private — across the country. Rangamati General Hospital PCR lab was newly added to the list.

To date, no fewer than 1,315,901 tests have been conducted in the country, leading to a whopping 20.45% infection rate as of yet.

The press release said that of the 44 deceased – 31 are men and 13 women – 19 were from the Dhaka division, seven from Khulna, six from Chittagong, four from Sylhet, three each from Barisal and Rajshahi, and two from Rangpur. 

The mortality rate against total cases detected so far was 1.32% until Thursday.

Among the victims, 41 died at different hospitals and three at home. 

As per government data, individuals who are 60 years old and above are the most vulnerable to Covid-19, as 47.54% of the dead until Thursday are in this age group. 

Meanwhile, 28.34% of the total deceased were aged between 51 to 60, 13.69% were 41-50, 6.38% aged between 31-40, 2.56% were 21 to 30, 0.96% were 11-20 and 0.53% were under the age of 10.

So far, 2,813 men (79.08%) and 744 women (20.92%) have died from the virus across the country. 

In the Dhaka Metropolitan area, 2,231 patients are currently hospitalized and 201 ICUs are occupied.

In the Chittagong Metropolitan area, 269 patients are currently hospitalized and 13 ICUs are occupied.

Meanwhile, the other Covid-19 dedicated hospitals across the country currently have a total of 1,848 patients hospitalized and 93 in ICUs.

A total of 10,922 out of the 15,270 general beds and 236 out of 543 ICUs are vacant at all hospitals in the country, added the release.
