Bangladesh records 41 more deaths, 1,827 new cases in 24 hours

Bangladesh Desk: Bangladesh has registered 41 more deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the number of total fatalities to 4,593.

The country logged more than 1,827 coronavirus cases over the same period. With this development, the number of all confirmed cases so far jumped to 331,078

The health authorities said 2,995 people recovered from the disease over the preceding 24 hours. So far, 239,804 patients — 69.71% of all infected — have made full recovery across the country.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed the latest figures on Covid-19 in the country with a press release on Wednesday.

Of the 41 deceased – 29 men and 12 women – 17 were from Dhaka division, six from Chittagong, five each from Rajshahi and Rangpur, four from Khulna, two from Sylhet and one each from Mymensingh and Barisal divisions.

Among the victims, 36 died at different hospitals, three at home, and two were declared dead after being taken to the hospital.

So far, 3,582 men (77.99%) and 1,011 women (22.01%) have died from Covid-19 across the country.

The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.39%.

The DGHS said 14,792 samples were collected from suspected Covid-19 patients in the last 24 hours.

As many as  14,755 samples, including the pending ones, were tested in the 94 authorized labs — government and private — across the country and 1,827 new patients were confirmed.

The latest figures show an infection rate of 19.77%. To date, 1,674,452 tests have been conducted in the country.

On March 8, health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain which was later named Sars-CoV-2.

The novel coronavirus broke out in China’s Wuhan city in late December last year and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.

The fast spreading coronavirus has claimed 902,356 lives and infected 27,764,017 people across the world till Wednesday afternoon, according to Worldometer.

As many as 19,848,805 people have recovered from Covid-19 which has spread to 213 countries and territories across the planet.
