Bangladesh COVID19: 30 more die and 1,356 test positive in 24 hours
Bangladesh has recorded its highest daily infection rate since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country, with 31.91% of tests conducted in the previous 24 hours coming back positive.
Earlier, the country recorded its highest daily infection rate of 25.23% on July 15.
The health authorities said 4,238 samples were collected from suspected Covid-19 patients between Sunday and Monday mornings.
As many as 4,249 samples, including the pending ones, were tested in the authorized labs across the country and 1,356 new patients were confirmed.
With the fresh detections, the number of all confirmed cases so far jumped to 242,102.
Till date, 1,193,544 tests have been conducted in the country, with an overall infection rate of 20.28% so far.
Additional Director General (Administration) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Prof Nasima Sultana, revealed the latest figures from Dhaka on Monday afternoon, in a daily online bulletin on the Covid-19 situation.
She said 30 more people have died of the deadly viral disease in the last 24 hours, raising the number of total fatalities to 3,184.
Among the deceased — 25 men and five women — the highest figure of 15 was from Dhaka division, five from Chittagong, four from Khulna, three from Rajshahi, and one each from Mymensingh, Rangpur, and Sylhet divisions.
So far, 2,504 men and 680 women have died from Covid-19 across the country.
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.32%.
The DGHS official said 1,066 people recovered from the disease over the preceding 24 hours.
So far, a total of 137,905 patients — 56.96% of all infected — have made full recovery across the country.
On March 8, health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain which was later named Sars-CoV-2.
The novel coronavirus had broken out in China’s Wuhan city in late December last year and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.
The fast-spreading coronavirus has claimed 693,149 lives and infected 18,254,455 people across the world till Monday afternoon, according to Worldometer.
As many as 11,457,077 people have recovered from Covid-19 which has spread to 213 countries and territories across the planet.
