Bangladesh interim Govt’s  Home Adviser Lieutenant General Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) today said the cohorts of the fallen Awami League (AL) are out to destablize the country, but the law enforcers have been asked to strengthen their patrolling across the country as the terrorists cannot stand anywhere.

“Awami League’s cohorts are trying all kinds of things to make unstable the country. They will in no way be spared. We will ensure that terrorists cannot stand anywhere and prevent crimes at any cost,” he said.

The Home Affairs Adviser made the remarks at an emergency press conference on the law and order situation in the country at his Baridhara DOHS residence here around 3 am today.

He said that the AL allies are using the huge amount of money taken out of the country for the purpose of making the country unstable.

“The government will not allow this to happen under any circumstances. It will be prevented no matter what,” he asserted.

Stating that the law enforcement agencies have been instructed to increase patrol activities, the adviser said that from tomorrow (Monday), they will take measures to ensure that no crime occurs anywhere.

“And if the law enforcement agencies cannot implement this instruction, action will also be taken against them. The law and order situation will improve day by day. There is no possibility of deterioration,” the adviser added.

Replying to a question, unpleasant incidents are happening across the country, but why are the criminals not being arrested? Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said, “Arrests are being made.

For example, three people have already been arrested (from Savar) for robbery on a bus.

The drive against criminals is ongoing and will continue”

Asked about the demand for his resignation from a protest rally at Dhaka University, Jahangir said the students wanted improvement of the law and order.

“If I can improve the reasons for which they asked me to resign, then there is no question of resignation.

They want the law and order situation to improve. I am making arrangements for the law and order situation to improve.

The law and order situation has improved a lot and it will continue to improve,” he said.

In reply to a question about the worry of the women students about their safety in the context of crimes against women, especially rape, the Home Adviser said, “I will tell my mothers and sisters have no reason to fear.

We are always concerned about them and we are always vigilant to ensure that they do not face any kind of problem. The law enforcement agencies are also always vigilant in this regard.”

The Home Adviser said the nationwide crackdown ‘Operation Devil Hunt’ will continue to make sure the terrorists cannot sleep, sit or stand anywhere.

In responding to a question, he said the law and order situation has improved a lot and would improve further.

Against the backdrop of increasing criminal acts using motorbikes, the Home Adviser has asked the law enforcement agencies to ensure the enforcement of a prior order that no more than two people with helmets can ride on a motorbike to stop the recurrence of such crimes.
