Another 15 die, 1,527 new cases found in Bangladesh

Bangladesh Desk: Bangladesh registered 15 more deaths from COVID-19 and 1,527 new coronavirus cases in the 24 hours ending at 8:00am Friday, with the death toll rising to 5,623 and the total cases to 3,86,086.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services, 13,577 samples were tested across the country in the 24-hour period and 11.25 per cent of them were found coronavirus positive.

The number of COVID-19 deaths on Thursday was also 15 and on Wednesday 16.

Bangladesh on March 8 confirmed its first COVID-19 cases and on March 18 the first death from the infection.

The country’s COVID-19 test positivity rate is now 18.06 per cent but the rate ranged between 11 per cent and 12 per cent in the past five weeks. The fatality rate is now 1.46 per cent.

Both the positivity rate and fatality rate decreased in recent days.

The fatality rate in the past three days was below

1 per cent while the positivity rate was below 12 per cent.

The DGHS in its update said that among the 15 new deaths, 12 were in Dhaka division and one each was in Chattogram, Khulna and Rangpur divisions.

Ten of the deceased were aged above 60 years, four between 51 and 60 years while one was between 31 and 40 years.

So far, 3,00,738 COVID-19 patients have recovered in the country, including 1,509 in the past 24 hours.

The country had 79,725 active cases on Friday.
