AL won’t be allowed to join polls until end of genocide trial: Sarjis

Online desk: Sarjis Alam, one of the key leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, has categorically stated that they will not allow Awami League to take part in election until the end of the trial related to the genocide charges brought against the party leaders.
“If necessary, there will be a second mass uprising in the country,” he said.
Sarjis, also general secretary of the July Shaheed Smrity Foundation, issued the warning in a Facebook post on early Tuesday afternoon.
Hours before, Hasnat Abdullah, convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, wrote another post on his Facebook stating that the desire to go to power walking through the blood of students and keeping Delhi ahead is nothing but betrayal with the pledges of emancipation by people. Those who will take initiatives for the rehabilitation of Awami League in the country, the history will consider them as the public enemies.
Awami League now wants to return to power capitalising on the influence of India, he wrote on the post.
Those who believe in the spirit of the July uprising, who want to reflect the hopes and aspirations of the masses, they cannot make any remark on Awami League except demanding its trial in the post-2024 Bangladesh, he furhet said on the Facebook post.
