AL lawmaker Aslamul Haque dies

Bangladesh desk: Ruling Awami League lawmaker M Aslamul Haque died at a hospital in Dhaka on Sunday.

He was 60.

Confirming the death, Aslamul’s relative Emran Hossain Shimul informed that they got the lawmaker admitted to Square Hospital in the capital on Saturday night after he suffered brain haemorrhage.

Physicians declared him dead at about 11:00am, he said.

Businessman-turned-politician Aslamul was elected MP for the Dhaka-14 constituency three times in a row on the nomination of the Awami League.

He was first elected MP in the December 2008 elections and then in 2014 and 2018.

Aslamul served as a member of the parliamentary standing committee on the civil aviation and tourism ministry.

Emran said that Aslamul will be buried at their family graveyard at Gabtoli after namaz-e-janaza at Darussalam at 11:00am.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina, speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, AL general secretary Obaidul Quader, AL-led 14-party alliance coordinator Amir Hossain Amu and information minister Hasan Mahmud, among others, expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of the lawmaker.

In a condolence message, Sheikh Hasina, also AL president, prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
