Allema Shafi laid to eternal rest at Hazhazari Madrasa

Bangladesh Desk: Hefazat-e-Islam Amir Allema Shah Ahmad Shafi, also former Director General (Muhtamim) of Hathazari Darul Uloom Moinul Islam Madrasa in Chattogram, was buried at the madrasa compound following namaj-e-janaza after Zohar prayers today.

The respected religious leader was laid to eternal rest at Baitul Atik Jamia Mosque graveyard of Hathazari Darul Uloom Moinul Islam Madrasa campus where he worked for 34 years.

Thousands of people from all walks of life, leaders of different professional bodies, socio cultural bodies and thousands of students of Allema Shah Ahmed Shafi attended his namaz-e-janaza at the madrasa maidan.

Hathazari upazila of Chattoram turned into a human sea with the influx of people who came to bid farewell to Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi, the teacher of thousands of Islamic scholars in the country.

Millions of people participated in the janaza covering an area of a few square kilometers. His eldest son Maulana Mohammad Yousuf led the namaz-e-janaza.

Police and RAB along with BGB led by executive magistrates were deployed to avoid any untoward situation amid the huge gathering of people attending the janaza of Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi, the country’s top religious leader.

Former Minister Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud, MP, Gazipur Mayor Jahangir Alam, Jamaat leader Shahjahan Chowdhury, Chattogram Range DIG Anwar Hossain, district SP Rashidul Haque and other senior social, political and government officials attended the namaz-e-janaza.

Hathazari Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Ruhul Amin told BSS that the janaza of Allema Shafi ended smoothly. No untoward incident was reported. On behalf of Hathazari Upazila administration, he expressed his gratitude to all for their cooperation to the administration and law enforcement agencies.

The janaza was led by Shafi’s eldest son Mohammad Yusuf Madani who is also the director of Pakhiyartila Qawmi Madrassah Rangunia.

Allama Shafi was the chairman of Bangladesh Qawmi Madrasah Education Board and a faction of the political party Islami Oikya Jote. He was popularly known as Boro Huzur.

Shafi was born in 1916 in Rangunia, Chattogram, and received his primary education from his family. Then he studied at Al-Jamiatul Arabiatul Islamiah, Ziri, for five to six months there.He was admitted to Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Mueenul Islam in 1926 at the age of 10. In Hathazari Madrassah he studied for 10 years. Then Shafi went to Darul Uloom Deoband in India for higher studies in the field of Hadith and Tafsir.
