9 Bangladeshis face charge sheets in India for human trafficking

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) of India has filed charge sheets against 12 people including nine Bangladeshi nationals for their alleged involvement in trafficking girls from Bangladesh to India for prostitution, an official from the agency revealed today.

The accused, belonging to a criminal network, allegedly preyed upon poor Bangladeshi women with promises of lucrative jobs and a better life in India but subsequently forced them into prostitution in Mumbai, Hyderabad and other cities, reports Mumbai Mirror, quoting sources.

The women were trafficked into India by crossing the Sonai River along the border in West Bengal, NIA sources said.

The charge sheets against the accused were submitted in a Hyderabad court. The accused were put under judicial custody and four of the victims — who were rescued from several brothels — were sheltered in a home in Hyderabad.
