Australia complete ‘Mission Hexa’ trashing India by 6 wkts
Tarvis Head hit an outstanding century to propel Australia to manage an easy win rescuing from a tough situation at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.
That was their sixth World Cup victory among the total 13 editions of the biggest tournament of the World. They had lost their first two game in the tournament but came back strongly to become the champions.
On the other hand, India failed to seal their third World Cup title despite dominating performances throughout the tournament, remaining unbeaten till the final game. Just one defeat ended their hopes and pushed them to be runners-up of the tournament.
After that, Tarvis Head and Marnus Labuschagne came in responsible minds and started building partnership to rescue their team. The duo made a 192-run match-winning stand between them.
Head departed for 137 runs from 120 balls hitting four sixes and 15 fours when Australia needed just two runs to seal the memorable victory.
However, Labuschagne finished the game with his unbeaten 110-ball 58 runs hitting just four fours keeping himself calm on the crease.
Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets for India while each of Mohammad Shami and Mohammad Siraj got one.
Earlier, India were bowled out for a below-per-score of 240 runs on account of their dismal batting performance despite picking 80 runs in the first powerplay.
Being asked to bat, the men in blue started well with a healthy run rate adding 80 plus runs on the board in the mandatory powerplay but fell under pressure losing three wickets inside 81 runs.
Skipper Rohit Sharma started well but did not convert his innings big as he departed for 47 playing 31 balls. Falling of wickets in quick succession slowed the run rate down.
After that, India got a 67-run stand between Virat Kohli (54) and KL Rahul (66). Kohli went back to the pavilion after completing his individual fifty.
Rahul then started building partnerships with the batters on the other end. He also departed for 66 playing too many 107 balls.
No other batters could show their promise with the bat as India were forcibly stopped on 240.
Mitchell Starc took the highest three wickets for Australia while each of Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins bagged two.
