Bangladesh desk: Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on Thursday rejected the government proposal for holding a dialogue by suspending their street protest that had become more violent on the day while at least 10 people were killed.
‘By resorting to violence in a peaceful movement, the government has created an unprecedented situation. It is the government’s responsibility. The government did not set any condition for negotiations,’ Nahid Islam, one of the coordinators of the movement, said in a Facebook post.
He said that the government would have to take full responsibility if law enforcement agencies were still not removed from the streets, if the dormitories, campuses, and educational institutions were not opened, and if the firing continued.
‘Quota reform alone will not be enough the resolve the crisis. At first, using the judiciary, the government did not pay heed to the demand, and law enforcers and party cadres tried to suppress the movement,’ he said.
‘No relief will be entertained even in the name of Judicial Inquiry Committee,’ he added.
All student murderers must be tried, he said and added that campuses should be made free from Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling Awami League.
He said that there would be no dialogue ignoring the blood of martyrs.
‘The government has to find a solution,’ he demanded.
‘There will be a call to the security forces of Bangladesh to stand by the students instead of supporting the murderous government,’ he said.
He also sought help from the international community saying that the international community should help Bangladesh.
‘Genocide is going on in Bangladesh,’ he added.
‘We could be arrested or disappeared tonight [Thursday]. You [people of Bangladesh] will continue the programme,’ he added.
