More incidents surface in Barishal, Feni, Satkhira, Cox’s Bazar, Moulvibazar

A 14-year-old girl lodged a case with Kaliganj Police Station in Lalmonirhat on Friday night alleging that she was raped by a group of five people on early Wednesday while more incidents of rape and sexual harassment were reported in Barishal, Feni, Satkhira, Cox’s Bazar and Moulvibazar.

Reports of rape and sexual harassment are pouring in amid the countrywide outrage against rape and violence against women.

The New Age correspondent in Lalmonirhat,  quoting Kaliganj Police Station officer-in-charge Farhad Hossain, reported that the victim, on her way to Kaunia from Patgram by a train on Tuesday night, got down from the train to drink water and missed it.

An auto-rickshaw driver Rocky, 29, of Tusvandar at Kaliganj approached her and assured her to take to Kaunia by his auto-rickshaw.

Instead of taking her to Kaunia, Rocky took her to an irrigation pump of Kaliganj upazila where Rocky and four of his accomplices raped her one after another and allowed her to leave on early Wednesday, the OC said, quoting the case statement.

The victim said that she complained to the local people and, on Thursday night, local village leaders in a meeting realised a huge amount of money from Rocky and gave her Tk 2,000 to go home and for treatment.

She said that she, on Friday afternoon, went to Kaliganj Press Club and later to Kaliganj Police Station with the help of journalists.

OC Farhad said that they had already arrested Rocky and trying to catch others.

The New Age Correspondent in Barishal, quoting sub-inspector Helal Uddin of Gournadi Police Station, reported that father of a physically and mentally challenged 15-year-old girl of a village of Batajor union lodged a case with his police station on Friday alleging that his daughter was raped and impregnated by his neighbour Sirajul Islam Byapari, 50.

SI Helal, who investigates the case, said that they were trying to arrest the accused.

The New Age correspondent in Satkhira, quoting Ashashuni Police Station OC Golam Kibria, reported that police arrested Moinur Rahman, headmaster of Ashashuni Pre-Cadet School, after a case was lodged with his police station alleging that the teacher entered the room of a schoolgirl in absence of her parents and tried to rape her.

The OC said that the villagers told police that they rushed to the victim’s house hearing her cry and saw that Moinur was fleeing the house.

In Feni, police on Friday night arrested Emon Faruque Badhsa, 20, pertaining to a case lodged against him on Thursday evening for raping his 5-year-old niece at a village of Chhagalnaiya upazila on October 5, the New Age correspondent in the district, quoting the police station OC Md Mezbah Uddin Ahmed, reported.

In Cox’s Bazar, police arrested Saiful Islam Sohel, son of Nurul Islam of Pahariapara village under Ramu upazila, on early Saturday in a case over the rape of a Class V student at Ramu Tea Garden area on Friday evening, the New Age correspondent in Cox’s Bazar, quoting the district additional superintendent of police Rafiqul Islam, reported.

The New Age correspondent in Sylhet, quoting Baralekha Police Station OC Mosharrof Hossain in Moulvibazar, reported that police arrested auto-rickshaw driver Ali Ahmed, 25, and Delwar Hossain, 25, of Shahbajpur under the upazila on Saturday morning for raping an 18-year-old girl in the upazila.
