Sacked DIG (Prisons) Bazlur jailed for 5 yrs in graft case

Bangladesh desk: A Dhaka court on Sunday sentenced Bazlur Rashid, a suspended Deputy Inspector General (Prisons), to five years in jail for amassing Tk 3.08 crore beyond known sources of income.
Dhaka Special Judges Court-5 Judge Iqbal Hossain pronounced the verdict. At the same time, the court also fined him Tk 5 lakh. In default, he will have to serve six months more in jail.
The court asked to confiscate the illegal assets in favour of the state cancelling Bazlur Rashid’s bail and sent him to jail.
The court framed charges against the accused on October 22, 2020, in the case.

On August 26, 2020, the Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC) deputy director Md Nasir Uddin, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the chargesheet to the court in the case.

The ACC summoned the suspended DIG and his wife for interrogation on October 20 in 20019 and showed him arrested on the same day after filing a case against him on charge of amassing illegal wealth worth Tk 3.14 crore.
