Regent Hospital scam: Shahed’s associate confesses in court

The court sent him to prison after recording his statement
Tariqul Islam alias Tareque Shibli, a close associate of Regent Hospital owner Mohammad Shahed Karim, on Friday gave his confessional statement in a case filed for alleged issuance of fake Covid-19 certificates.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Masudur Rahman recorded his statement after Detective Branch (DB) of Police Inspector SM Gaffarul Alam produced him before the court. Gaffarul is also the investigation officer of the case.
The accused admitted to being involved in the fake Covid-19 report scam.
The court sent him to prison after recording his statement.
On July 16, Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim placed Tariqul on a fresh seven-day remand in the case.
Tariqul was arrested from the capital’s Nakhalpara area on July 9.
On July 6, RAB raided the Uttara and Mirpur branches of the Regent Hospital on complaints that the hospital was issuing fake Covid-19 certificates, as well as charging excessive fees for Covid-19 testing and treatment.
During the raid, RAB also found evidence of the hospital issuing at least 6,000 fake Covid-19 test reports.
The next day, RAB filed a case against 17 people, including Shahed, with the Uttara West police station. Later, ten people were arrested in this connection. Source: Dhaka Tribune
