Quota protesters give 24-hour for visible steps

Bangladesh desk: The quota protesters on Sunday said that they would observe for 24 hours whether the government takes any visible steps regarding their demand and withdraw the case filed by the police.
Nahid Islam, one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, while addressing a rally at 3:20pm at the Gulistan crossing in the capital, said that quota protesters wanted to see visible steps taken by the government within the next 24 hours.
He said, ‘We are not getting assurance from the government. We urge the president to take steps to raise the issue of our one-point demand in the parliament. We hope that he would play a role in passing a law and call an emergency session of the parliament to take visible steps within 24 hours.’
The protesters blocked the road in front of the Gulistan Shopping Complex at around 1:45pm and left the place at around 3:20pm after holding a short rally.
They submitted a memorandum to the president’s military secretary Major General Mohammad Adil Chowdhury at around 2:30pm.
Students have been protesting across the country against the reinstatement of quotas in public services and demanding reform in the system since July 1.
