Protests against Israeli massacre in Palestine continue

A cross section of people, including leaders of political parties and students, on Friday demonstrated in the capital Dhaka and elsewhere in the country demanding an immediate end to the Israeli massacre in Palestine.

Protesters in separate rallies, processions and flag hoisting programmes against Israel’s bombardment and mass killings in Palestine expressed solidarity with the struggle of Palestinian people and urged the world community to take steps to end the oppression

On April 7, tens of thousands of students, professionals, and ordinary citizens across Bangladesh observed a global strike boycotting their regular activities in solidarity with the people of Gaza.

Since then, protests against the massacre have continued for the fifth consecutive day on Friday.

Different protest and solidarity programmes are also scheduled to be held this week.

People in groups staged demonstrations after offering jumma prayers in Dhaka and other cities across the country on Friday.

In Dhaka, people in groups staged rallies and brought out processions after offering jumma prayers at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

Dhaka metropolitan north and south units of the Islami Jubo Andolan Bangladesh, the youth wing of the Islami Andolan Bangladesh, jointly organised a demonstration at the national mosque’s north gate.

Addressing a brief rally before a protest march, Islami Jubo Andolan Bangladesh president Atikur Rahman Mujahid said that the Israeli massacre in Palestine was against humanity and the country must end it immediately.

Atikur urged the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation to take actions to end mass killing in Palestine by Israel.

The youth body brought out a procession after the rally and paraded different roads in the Paltan area.

Leaders and activists of the Islami Jubo Andolan Bangladesh also held protest rallies in Narsingdi, Tangail, Narayanganj, Sirajganj, Sylhet, Barishal and other cities as part of its countrywide programmes.

Bangladesh Tisree Insaaf Dol, Bangladesh Shanti Songha, Al-Qudas Committee Bangladesh and others also held rallies and brought out processions after jumma prayers in the national mosque in the capital on Friday.

The chief coordinator of the party, Zonayed Saki, who chaired the rally, said that it was unfortunate that when most of the people in the world were opposing the Israeli brutal attacks on unarmed Palestine people, but the country, patronised by the United States government, continued such attacks.

Addressing a protest rally organised by the Biplobi Juba Samhati in front of the National Press Club, Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh general secretary Saiful Huq stated that Israel was able to continue the genocide in Gaza with United States’ support and it must be stopped immediately.

Dhaka University unit of the Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir organised a flag hoisting programme on the DU campus in solidarity with Palestine.

Two-wheeler rider groups and platforms, including Bangladesh Vespa Community and BDCyclists, jointly held ‘Ride for Palestine’ at Manik Mia Avenue.

New Age correspondent in Pabna reported that Shibir leaders and activists held a protest march and rally in Pabna city.

Jashore district unit of the Islami Andolan Bangladesh organised a protest rally at Jashore central eidgah in the afternoon while the Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh held a separate rally at Daratana Square after jumma prayers, reported New Age correspondent in Jashore.

Several human chains were also formed by different groups of people in the town in solidarity with the people of Palestine.

The Palestine Solidarity Movement Bangladesh is scheduled to hold ‘March for Gaza’ and a mass gathering at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital today.
