Mass media helps other instts to play responsible role, observes court

Bangladesh desk: A Dhaka court on Sunday said that mass media is an important component for promoting democracy and it plays a supportive role in showing responsible behaviour by other institutions.
So, the court and mass media never create obstruction each other in doing their works. “Court also play an auxiliary role. So, we expect she (Rozina Islam) will be more aware in discharging her responsibilities,” the court added.
A Dhaka court came up with the observation on Sunday while granting bail to Prothom Alo senior reporter Rozina Islam on condition of submitting her passport before it.
Metropolitan Magistrate Baki Billah granted journalist Rozina the bail till July 15 upon a bond of Tk 5,000.
Rozina was confined at the Ministry of Health inside the Bangladesh Secretariat on May 17 for over five hours.
Later, Deputy Secretary of Health Services Shibbir Ahmed filed the case against her with Ramna Police Station at night on charge of “stealing” government documents and taking photographs of those on her mobile phone without permission.
The journalist was shown arrested in the case and sent to Kashimpur Women’s Jail on May 18 after her bail was rejected.
