Indian citizen held in Bangladesh for ‘vandalising temple’

Police on Monday said that they detained an Indian citizen for his alleged involvement in vandalising a temple in Bhanga Upazila of Faridpur in Bangladesh.

The detainee is Sanjib Biswas, 45, son of Nishi Kanto Biswas of Nadia in Indian state of West Bengal, according to a press statement issued by the superintendent of police in Faridpur.

Miscreants vandalised a temple in the upazila on Saturday night, and police visited the scene on Sunday after receiving the information.

During the investigation, one person was found sleeping on an abandoned cot in front of the Kali temple, while another person was found lying on the ground next to the cot.

Of them, one was known by the locals, while another one was found unknown, said the press statement.

Due to suspicious behaviour, the police detained the unknown person to ascertain his identity, and, at one point of the interrogation, he confessed that he was an Indian citizen, it said.
